Las Terrenas Local Beaches
Playa Las Ballenas
Playa Las Ballenas is one of the most beautiful and convenient beaches in Las Terrenas, located directly in front of Hotel Alisei & Spa. Featuring calm, shallow turquoise waters and fine white sand, it is protected from strong currents and is perfect for families, swimming, and wading. The beach gets its name from three small rock keys in the distance (Las Ballenas) that resemble whales breaking the water surface.
Playa Punta Popy
Playa Punta Popy is the social and athletic hub of Las Terrenas. Flanked by giant coconut palms, it features a mix of calm water pools for relaxing swimming on one side, and windy, open-water sections on the other. It is incredibly popular for kitesurfing due to consistent sea breezes and serves as a beloved meeting spot for locals and tourists to watch sunsets.
Playa Bonita
Playa Bonita, honoring its name, is one of the most beautiful paradises in Samaná. It features 3 kilometers of white sand, crystal clear waters, and a dense line of elegant coconut trees. What differentiates this paradise is that there are no typical crowds here. It offers total tranquility to disconnect from the routine.
Playa Cosón
Playa Cosón features white sand, calm turquoise waters, and a thick canopy of coconut palms providing generous shade. Located near Boulevard del Atlántico, you can also encounter small less-frequented paradises along the beach, such as Playa Onda and Playa Morón, which offer quiet, relaxing retreats.
Playa Portillo
Playa Portillo features a long stretch of golden sand protected by a shallow coral reef. The reef acts as a barrier, forming a calm, shallow lagoon of warm, clear water. This setup makes it an incredibly safe and relaxed haven for wading, swimming, and spotting small reef fish close to the shore.
Samaná Peninsula Excursion Beaches
Playa El Limón
Playa El Limón is a spectacular, wild, and undeveloped beach located east of Las Terrenas. Stretching for several kilometers, it offers total privacy and raw tropical beauty, with golden sand and strong waves. From the shore, you can enjoy views of Cayo Limón, a small islet. The mouth of the Limón River meets the sea here, offering a cool freshwater swim.
Playa Rincón
Considered one of the ten most beautiful beaches in the world, Playa Rincón is a haven of peace. On one end, the freshwater river Caño Frío meets the ocean, offering a unique cold-and-warm bathing experience. The beach is divided into a protected, serene natural lagoon on one side, and a breezy, wave-swept Atlantic section on the other.
Playa Frontón
Playa Frontón is an isolated, wild beach nestled at the foot of a vertical 90-meter rocky cliff. It has one of the largest coral reefs in the country, teeming with marine life just inches from the shore. Access is possible via a scenic boat ride from Las Galeras or a hiking footpath through a dense tropical forest.
