Public Bus (Asotrapusa)

During the day there are 6 buses that leave for Las Terrenas from the Asotrapusa station, located on Barahona Street, near Duarte Avenue, Santo Domingo. Buses to Samaná leave from the same station; be sure to take the bus explicitly destined for Las Terrenas.

The travel ticket costs approximately US$ 8 per person.

  • Departure Times: 8:30 AM – 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM – 1:40 PM – 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM (small bus).
  • Airport pickup: Approximately 30 minutes after leaving the station, the buses make a stop near the AILA airport highway intersection (which is a 10-minute taxi ride from the terminal, costing around US$ 15).

Car Rental & Driving

If you choose to rent a vehicle and drive from AILA to Las Terrenas, the trip duration is approximately 2 hours.

The toll road entrance is located very close to the airport. The highway is in excellent condition and you can drive safely during the day.

Avis is the only international rental brand with a physical branch in Las Terrenas. Renting with them gives you the convenient option of dropping off the vehicle here if you do not want to rent it for your entire vacation.

Important Driving Safety Advisory

It is highly advisable to travel the highway to Las Terrenas strictly during the day. Avoid driving at dusk or night due to a lack of highway signaling, high beams from oncoming vehicles, wandering livestock/animals on the road, and local motorcycles driving without lights.
